Karen was trained as a sculptor at Newcastle University and completed her Master of Fine Art at Reading University. She is a full-time artist and founder/proprietor of Ebor Studio in Littleborough, Greater Manchester. For many years, she enjoyed a career as an Art Lecturer leading BA and MA programmes at Lancaster University, Sheffield Hallam University, and Salford University.
A great deal of her work is three dimensional but takes a variety of forms ranging from Installation, Performance and Sculpture. Drawing is a very important part of her practice both as a way of developing new ideas and for exhibiting in its own right. Most of Karen’s work references the body whether; directly as recognisably figurative pieces, derivative in abstract form, or in actuality as performance pieces. Karen exhibits at home and internationally, makes public art works to commission and, more recently has embarked on a programme of sculptural monuments which celebrate the achievements of notable women. The portrait of Erinma Bell for Guns to Goods is incorporated into this ongoing project.
